With heart surgery, for example, studies have found more than three-fold differences in surgical mortality rates across hospitals. This information is becoming increasingly available to patients through public reporting mechanisms. However still majority of the providers havent been able to incorporate some of the evidence based metrics as part of their referral process as majority of referral systems are either complex as in EHR systems or a standalone system with no ability to consume data or as a disintegrated process using paper/fax. Medical Tourism Facilitators are organizations that are involved in the coordination of patient care for patients traveling from one country to another.  The certification process is a detailed process of evaluation which may take up to 120 days to complete. The standards have been developed by healthcare leaders from around the world in an effort to create best practices in the medical tourism industry.  The key to the MTA’s program is transparency in the services being offered to international patients.
